Artist's Comments

This is only part of the actual picture, but since the other half on the left was meant for text and doesn't have anything of artistical value, I cut it off.

It's the homepage image map for my website (which doesn't exist yet). I wasn't going to paint it at first, until I discovered Daniel won't be back until Friday and because of that my teachers gave us an actual day off instead of extra-classing away all my school holidays. So I spent Friday painting and watching the Emperor's New Groove (which is a spiffy and totally stupid show), instead of doing Biology and Add Maths.

Thank yous, Daniel. :D

The name Sanctuary has no relation at all to the picture - I just couldn't think of a decent title, and then there was Quasimodo's mom screaming "Sanctuary! Give us sanctuary!" on WMP.

This is actually my second painting - the first was a Star Wars fanart and happened to kick my butt. Now I can actually sit back and be proud of myself for once, despite the sucky background which was dang hard to stop my computer hanging long enough to draw. ^-^ I also considered putting in a close-up, but there's a closeup already in the picture, so blarg.

Time taken: Close to 14 hours
Tools: Original sketch in pencil [link] , Photoshop 7.0, tablet
Current music: Abandoned - Kamelot

Ms,

This is beautiful.

Hmm, :giggle:

Definitely a favourite

She seems to lament over something that has happened or is going to happen, yet, she maintains her composure, her subtlety , maybe she does not want to worry others? So lonely, she is.

Do have a nice day.

That's so gorgeous ;_; The colouring's beautiful, and her dress is beautiful, and I love her hair and the expression on her face. Must fave!

The mist looks a lot better now, this came out really well. Now, how about that Star Wars art?

Absolutely breathtakingly beautiful. ^_^
((I'd say "gimme a dress like that!" but I don't quite have the body for it, hehehe.))

Out of curiosity, have you read Demonology 101? [link] The markings under her eyes remind me of those which play a significant role in this webcomic. You should check it out, if not. ^_~

She has no nose, and if you didn't have that enlarged picture of her as the background, I wouldn't say so. The shadowing is fine, just that the colouring is a bit too harsh and her skin looks like she's got fungal infection in some places. Her right arm is definitely off. Something to do with the wrist and hand, that. And if that's her blue hair trailing behind her over her dress, it looks like she's got split ends. Oh, and her left boob is rather... Well, the shape is rather... pointy? *snerks* Whatever it is, it's smaller than the other one. The hair on top of her head looks alright, but her dress looks kinda tattered or gauzy on her left side. Otherwise, thanks for the non-Disney style. Oh, the bridge of her nose has no definition, upper lip slightly too big, and one side is lopsided. And if you DID happen to include your close-up, I'd rag it even more than I already have.

Total favorite! I completley adore the coloring and the dress design. I can't tell for sure but on parts of the dress it seems they are lightly colored lines whereas her face remains lineless. I like the contrast. Great job, Crystal! :+fav:

It's amazing how I never noticed the boob until I posted it up on DA... by which time I was like "What the heck, forget it."

;___; Stupid boob.

I drew the right hand four times before settling on this one... it never looked right in any of them.

And besides, if you'd COME TO SCHOOL or been online, y'know, you could've ragged the sketch, BEFORE I painted anything...
